My photography teacher, Clifford Lester has been involved with a non-profit organization called Para Los Ninos ( http://www.paralosninos.org/ ) . Its an organization that helps children in challenged community's with getting them out of poverty by giving them a chance with education services that some of us might take for granted or even can afford to pay, but for them that's not a possibility. I heard about this project last year were photography students at the college, are able to donate their time and photographic skills to help the organization on telling the story about the children and how much this organization plays a big part in their daily lives through photography. I knew I really wanted to do this once I heard about it and got involved back in September when we had a meeting with Para Los Ninos on which schools we can go to and take photos of the students. I was happy to be a part of something that would help such a great organization in their needs on continuing to grow and expand to other communities that really need these services.
I got to go to Delevan Elementary School in LA to photograph the students a couple of weeks ago. Para Los Ninos has an after school program for the students at the school. Its such a big thing to have these programs for children to have somewhere to go after school if their parents are still working then to just go back home or maybe worse be on the streets. I had a lot of fun and the children really opened up to me asking me questions about my camera and who I was and those kid questions ... you know...... hehe :) I even got to sit down with one of them and read a book about the pledge of allegiance with him. It was more then just photography with these kids, but to see the children having fun with their friends, classmates and teachers from Para Los Ninos during my time there was really awesome and an experience that I would never forget. I want to share some moments with a few photos that I took that day and to all the children and teachers with Para Los Nino at Delevan Elementary School.... You Guys Rock!
